It has been suggested by several people that survival outside the Van Allen belt is impossible unless the human was encased under 6 feet of lead. This is apparently the discovery of an 1950’s report by the Russians that again was apparently known to the US. If so then the Russians

1. Wouldn’t have tried to go to the moon in the first place

2. Would have disputed the success off the US moon shots

3. If the report wasn’t known to the US then the failure of the Apollo missions would be hailed as a Soviet success.

David Percy in his book "Dark Moon - Apollo and the Whistle blowers" has suggested that the amount of radiation on the moon is greater than that of the old x-ray machines in airports that had a bad reputation for ruining films.So why are the photographs not heavily fogged?

The belt, which begins about 400 miles above the planet's surface, ABSORBS deadly cosmic rays from the sun and TRAPS radioactive material.

He has been a strong advocate AGAINST manned space flight even in the space shuttle mainly because of the cost but he is also aware of the physical effects on the astronauts.The weightlessness of space causes muscles to atrophy and bones to weaken, but the person after which the Van Allen belts are named is only concerned about the LONG TERM effects of cosmic radiation outside the Van Allen belt, for example during a two year trip to Mars, not the relatively short journey to the Moon
